Arrow Too Heavy????

Got a Holm Made Static River Runner 41@28 that I draw 27.  Arrows are 30 inch CE Heritage 90's with standard insert and 200 grain tips.  They shoot perfect but weigh 518 grains.  Wondering if I might be too heavy at 13.6 gpp when shooting 38-39 lbs for a hunting set up?  I like to be around 11-12 gpp but had to go to a 200 grain tip for perfect flight.  Just a little tail right with 175's.

I generally stay at or near 10 gpp, but if you are getting good performance at the heavier weight, then go with it. How is the trajectory? That would be my strongest consideration. If it shoots good at 20 yards, then I consider an arrow good to go.

That's getting into heavy arrow territory.  Ive killed several deer with close to that gpp out of bows in your weight range.  I can tell you that inside 20 yds it worked perfectly for me.  Nice quiet bow and gentle thumps were benefits.  I do prefer 10-11 gpp as i use the same set ups for 3d--- i like to practice with what ill hunt with.  When using the 13.5 gpp arrows i found they dropped like rocks at 25 and 30 yds.  My 26.5" draw length doesn't help:).  You have a fine set up for deer.

Not too heavy if you're happy with the trajectory. I shoot 650 gr. From a 40# recurve (over 16gpp). It's shooting about 140 FPS. Have taken deer, elk, and bear with this setup and I get excellent penetration with a very quiet shot.

I don't really shoot outside of 20 so the trajectory doesn't bother me too much.  However I might order a half dozen Dark Timber shafts from Big Jim and see how I like the lighter arrows.

I agree that your draw weight is light and the tip is too heavy.  I never got on the bandwagon for heavy tip weight.  I still shoot 125 Snuffers and 145 Bears.  If you can cut arrow weight by 50 grains you will see a difference in trajectory.

I really don't understand this heavy arrow deal. Ive shot around 425 grain arrows always. Shot many deer and got pass throughs almost always. I shoot 50lb bows and draw 31 in. I personaly like a flat shooting arrow and yes bows are quiet. Maybe on bigger game like elk heavier is best but for deer don't see it.

I wasn't really looking for a heavy arrow, it is just where these tuned at.  I ordered some CE 75's so should be able to lighten up by 50 grains or so.

I have a 38 lb Kanati 29" draw that I shoot full length 31" 500 axis arrows with a 190 gr point 495 grs total
Shoots  thru deer, is quite, 30 yds is my max range (175 Ace broadheads are great).
It will be fine. If you like it.

I shoot a 545gr arrow 46@27.5 about 11gr per-pound I hunt with it and shoot 3d's with it work great.

I always err on the side of heavier arrows because, in my experience, it leads to deeper penetration.

If you are not shooting over 20 yards, then you should be set up perfectly for deer.

I got some CE Heritage 75's and they weigh 438 grains and spine perfectly with 145 grain tips.  Like the trajectory and not having to shoot such a heavy tip.  Now I can just stick my Stinger 150's on there.
