Anyone find a hog nest? This is exactly what this looks like to me. Lined with grass.

If only they laid eggs in those nests. It would be the ultimate breakfast food!

Wudstix

Found one at Granger WMA TX that was as long as my 60"recurve and almost as wide.

And when they lay down in em, the only think youll see is their ears sticking up.

I jumped one in Crane on our Trad Gang hunt. Looked a lot like it,but wasn't as well used as that one.

Jeff D. Holchin

We find lots of them on our coastal Georgia hunt; they seem to use them more on the cold nights.  Several times I have seen a group of pigs on them; usually it's a sow with piglets but sometimes a big nest can contain a handful of mature hogs.

Yep.  Sometimes the sowb will leave really little ones there while she's out feeding.  I've caught some little ones that way.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Finally got this pic converted.  For reference the recurve is 60" AMO.  Getting cool is more important to Texas hogs, so digging down into the mud is how they roll.

Nice one. We saw several more hog beds/nests in wanderings around the ranch, but none were as large as the one in the picture. I'm thinking that one is used for birthing also.

Wudstix

There are a couple boars pushing 400# running this area.  We shoot one about four years ago, all busted/scarred up with gangrene in his front leg.  We killed 9 that weekend, including the two in my avatar, we tossed him right in the river to float away.

What happened to Guru and Cade? My guess is that Cade should be out of high school by now. Maybe college? Hope he is still an avid traditional bowhunter. His daddy trainef him well.

Don't really know.  Curt and I never had a cross word, and spent hundreds of hours afield, and he just went away.

Man did we have a lot of fun together.....I truly miss him.

Those Georgia and Louisiana hg beds are impressive! Better materials there than in the dry country.

Terry;

That thread you posted was pretty incredible.

Our sows make beds the same but in much tighter cover when they are ready to litter. Its not uncommon to find them with piglets in them, we dont
touch piglets because we know and have seen younger sows kill them when they find the nest compromised.Pigs are really intelligent animals if you
take the time to study them, witness the bed construction to get comfortable.
