Hey all -
I've been primarily a hybrid longbow shooter last decade plus... the only exception being a 50's style recurve, again with a longbow style grip. Getting the hankering to add a 3 piece recurve to the program & stable, an Asbell Bighorn 3 pc. was my first traditional bow waaaaaay back. Still have it, but it's a bit stout for me at this point.
Looking for ideas on a 3 piece that has a slimmer-profile riser, not a real blocky & heavy piece of lumber. Nothing wrong with the bigger mass risers, I'm just looking for something closer to what I'm currently shooting - especially in the grip area. I'd prefer a shorter over longer length riser (as long as the sight window is sufficient), with nice working limbs. One I'm considering/like the looks of is Big Jim's Desert Bighorn, but I'm open to suggestions from those with more current experience than I. I've been out of the 3 pc recurve loop for some time...
thanks for any experiences & thoughts!
Randy

Hey Randy, I offer a 3 piece recurve that utilizes the same rise as my 3 piece longbows.
Risers are 1.5" wide and vary in length from 15-17".
The 15" riser will make either a 58-60" recurve and the 17" will make a 60-62"
My limb width is 1 5/8" at mid limb.
It's a slim profile and can be made pretty light in mass weight or I can make them fairly heavy with the addition of G10.
The beauty of it is you can have virtually any combination of both long bow and recurve all while using the same riser.
If I can help in any way or answer any questions please let me know.
Thx!

I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Morrison Archery used to offer an A riser with their Cheyenne that was pretty small and lightweight.Thy had A,B and C size risers.

I think I would check the Venders list for all 3 piece recurve makers and see who is offering risers in the 13 to 17 inch range and study the design and see if it fits the bill as far as being steamlined and less bulky. They might even be able to customize the riser a bit to your liking if you discuss what your looking for as well as the grip.
