Small game points?

What's the best small game point? Gearing up for a pheasant hunt. I have judo points but have read mixed reviews.

I agree with Mr. Lamb... on birds a broadhead kills quickest.

First of all, I have no experience shooting pheasant with a bow.  I did chase them around SD last October with a 12g. They are tough birds! Having the knowledge I got with stout #6's behind a dog, there is no way I'd use anything other than a broadhead!

Do they still make the points that have the wire loops on them?

Snaro bird points...they are still around. Those are fine for doves or pigeons. Pheasants are tough birds...flu-flu arrows with broadheads.

Lived in Eastern South Dakota for a few years...great pheasant hunting. Use dogs or drives....otherwise you will be walking a whole lot and getting very few shots.

If you would like to see any more pictures of pheasant hunts do a search for the word pheasants in the title..... There were 3 Saint Jude pheasant hunts and there's a lot of photos there and a few other heads that people modified.

I think this is where a 3 blade would really shine. For a larger bird like a pheasant that could fly off or even glide a long distance after the hit, a multiple blade head does a lot of cutting and hopefully end the flight quickly for the best chance of recovery. I think pheasants, rabbits and especially ground hogs need a broadhead. Critters do not know that they are supposed to immediately drop dead at the shot. They just keep on keepin on until you thump them hard enough to make them stop. Doves and squirrels may die well with Judo's or blunts but bigger animals are tougher and need to be killed quickly.

But  Don't expect a 3 blade to stay in the animal..... Those modified heads you see blew right through them....

Thank you for all the responses. I never would have assumed broad heads would be the majority response. My concern would be a dog retrieving a bird with a broad head flopping around (if I actually hit one). But the last response put me at ease.

My experience has been the same as Terry. The broadhead arrow flies through and beyond and the bird drops like a stone.[attachment=1]

For birds I would use broadheads. For rabbits I prefer judos. They still blow right through them and really do some damage! For squirrels I prefer a blunt tip made by grinding the point off of a field point. They've worked well for me.

We were not allowed to use broad heads in NJ. I made these up and killed 2 birds. We also had some killed with adders behind field points.

Skip....that set up was used by us also....not exacted by really close.....it did a good job on the pheasants also.
