What spine cedar arrow foor my Blacktail

I have a 50#@ 29" Blacktail elite. Don't have any experience with wood arrows. Can anyone tell me what spine I would need for this set up. I am thinking about using Zwickey eskimos. Does head weight still play a big part in tuning wood arrows as it does with aluminum and carbon ? I am assuming so. Any suggestions on tip weight also ? Gary

Depending on your head weight, probably a 60-65 would be a good place to start. Consider Douglas fir as well. Typically run a little heavier than cedar, if your looking to get your arrow weight up

I agree with FL -- 60-65#.  If you in fact draw 29 inches, the poundage will be about 52-53 at your draw length. An eskimo is a relatively light head, about 125 grains, not requiring an increase in spine, but need to add about 5# of spine weight for the extra inch of draw over 28 inches, and another 5# for a low stretch string, which I assume the Blacktail has.  You may need to go higher yet, but 60-65 is a good place to start.

Because Blacktail's shelves are cut past center they are more forgiving to spine ranges. I would look at 65/70's.

try a test kit of 55/60 60/65 and 65/70...i would call steve at surewood...u can have them cut and taper for ya too

You are getting very good information here.  I had a 53# VL Blacktail. My draw was slightly under 28", if I recall correctly.  It loved 62-63# spine. Should have never sold it, but I have another Blacktail now.

My Stickflinger is 49# and my Blacktail Sitka 50#, both@28" draw. Will both shoot 65/70 with 160 grain heads.

Snag has been building my arrows for years, he might be right on. Do you actually draw 29"?

I usually shoot 160 grain heads and also like Douglass Fir, and Sitka Spruce.

65-70 or 70-75#.

Twenty nine inch draw,30 inch arrow,FF string.Those 4 factors add a lot to proper poundage choice irregardless of actual poundage of bow.

Assuming you have the 29" draw (that the bow weight suggests) I'd go with 60/65 or 65/70. Bear paw brand spuce are hand spined and +- 5 grains for 28 bucks a dozen.
