Haven't had much time at all to hunt, so decided to make some arrows to scratch the archery itch. I ordered some shafts from Surewood and some feathers from 3Rivers. They had some purple feathers on sale, and being frugal (cheap!), couldn't pass them up.

I usually use POC, and this was the first time I've ordered from Surewood. Very impressed! These are the hunter grade, and I only had very minor straightening with a couple of them. I had them cut and tapered for nock and point since the douglas fir is reportedly difficult to cut neatly with tapering blades.

Was thinking about doing something fancier, but I wanted to shoot them sooner rather than later! So they got six coats of Tru Oil, no stain, and for how plain they are, I'm very pleased with how they look. Even the purple.

They weigh within a couple grains of 525 with a 160 grain point. Nice and heavy for the 40# Mahaska longbow. They shoot very well and get very good penetration on the target block. With an Ace Standard it should prove to be a very good set up.

I like 'em a lot!

In a moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

Nice job.  I use Surewood hunter grade DF shafts.
