First post and cool trick I stumbled on

Hi all, I'm not a high number forum poster but wanted to say hi and join the community.  I have been a long time archer/bowhunter but only have been shooting traditional gear for about 2 years.  I picked up a used Samick Phantom (45#) and got hooked.  I've since stepped up to a 21" Hoyt Satori with 45# limbs and even more recently picked up the new velos limbs in 50#.  I have been doing an annual trip out west to chase bigger critters so I wanted to build a setup that could handle any North American game species. It's been fun to say the least, and I am way down the rabbit hole.  Going with traditional gear has changed archery for me, I shoot almost daily now (or I should say nightly after the 1 year old and 4 year old are in bed) and I absolutely cannot get enough!

The trick I stumbled on was with my Selway quiver.  At first I just stuffed arrows in the foam about where they should go but after many in's and out's with broadheads there were foam beads like a breadcrumb trail behind me everywhere I took that thing.  I got a new piece of foam and marked where I wanted the holes with a sharpie then heated a pointed steel rod (about the diameter of a field tip) and pushed it into the marked holes.  The heat enlarged the holes a bit but sorta cauterized the foam in the process.  I've have used this foam piece about as many times as the other one and I don't think I've had a single piece of foam fall out yet.  Not that revolutionary of a tip but I figured I'd pass it on.

Hopefully I'll have a first kill with the recurve story to tell soon.  I didnt hunt with it the 1st year of shooting it.  This year I started off hunting with the compound but have decided to go full in with the traditional tackle.  I can consistently keep my arrows in the replaceable core to my rhinehart block at 25 and less.

Dean Torges used to do something similar with his quiver foam, but by heating a broadhead to make slots.  The hot broadhead "cauterized" the foam to make a slightly larger opening and pocket for the heads for easy and repeatable insertion.  He then coated a head with Vaseline and slid it in and out of the "pocket" to help give his sharpened hunting heads a bit of rust protection.

I miss that man.
