I've had a pretty uneventful season this year.  I had a close encounter with a good buck last week that snuck in on me in wet leaves and saw me before I could make anything happen but other than that I don't think I've had a deer closer than 30 yards all season.

That changed Saturday afternoon. I set up in a cherry tree that was growing right next to a big hemlock. The hemlock branches were growing around the cherry so I had real good cover. This tree was looking over a scrape that was really getting hit hard. Within an hour after getting set I caught movement below and closing. Then I see horns and good 1s! But now he's slowly veering to where I don't want him to be!! Hes gonna catch my wind and this whole thing is about to fall apart! I had just put some milkweed in the air and know where the wind is and he's about to get a nose full! I'm also facing the wrong way and can't move cause he's in pretty tight now. THERES NO WAY THIS IS GONNA WORK OUT!!! HES GONNA NAIL ME ANY SECOND!! He's now crossing at 15 yards and nearly behind me and walking slowly. I figure I gotta try and decide to press the attack.  I slowly stand, pivot and draw as slowly and gracefully as my fat self can, hit anchor and release all in 1 move and holy smokes he's got 1 of my cedars in his side!!! I can't believe that just happened!!! I KNEW THAT WAS GONNA FALL APART!!! HE WAS 1 STEP FROM WINDING ME!!! My initial impression of hit wasn't good. I thought it was pretty far back. So decided to sneak out til the morning. It was real cold so I wasn't worried about spoiling. My buddy and I took up the track in the morning and he didn't far at all and decent blood the whole way. Shot was a bit back but not what I thought. I'm real happy with him. This is the first deer I've ever shot that actually had ground growth!! I thought he was a little smaller. Shot him with 60 lb @ 28 Osage self bow I made, cedar arrow with woodsman up front. This is 3rd deer with this bow.

Congratulations on a really fine buck.

You Done Good....  Really, Really, Good!
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.
