I busted my butt to get out of work early, made it home around 5:20, threw some camo on and was sitting by a trail taking advantage of a light SW wind by 5:45.  Over an hour of hunting time.

It didn't necessarily start off well, as I bumped 2 deer out of the field on the way in, but it wasn't long before a doe came along the trail.  I couldn't draw while she approached because she was looking all around.  I thought she would pause at 7 yards as she entered the field quartering away, but she moved too quickly for me to get my bow in position,  and fed away from me.

Fortunately,  she stopped to feed under a red oak at 20 yards away, but didn't offer a good shot angle for 10 minutes, but when she did, I didn't hesitate.

Made a heart shot on her and heard it go down after around 50 yards, but decided to let our old German Shepherd do the track.   He was FH2 certified in Schutzhund until we retired him due to progressive pain from an old elbow injury.  He doesn't have many of these left in him, but he sure was happy to get out on easy ground.  Love that dog

Nice one pdk! I know the feeling of rushing to get out of work and hunt all too well.

Don't get used to me smiling, lol.  My dog's  happiness is contagious.

Great to see you out there and smiling. Love your dog, just lost mine two weeks ago but the bad days are getting fewer.

Congrats!
