After a year and a half of planning, I can't believe that my moose hunt in Alaska has come and gone. I flew out to Fairbanks on September 14 with a heavy heart. The sudden passing of my 57 year old brother left me with a lot to think about on my 12 hour flight. It definitely put things into perspective!! I was picked up at the airport by my buddy and fellow PBS member Bubba Graves. The next day we drove 5 hours to our air taxi. I was in awe of the beauty of the Brooks Range. We landed in a lake where we unloaded the plan. As the Beaver left us I was overcome with a feeling of peace. I needed this.[attachment=1,msg2889534][attachment=2,msg2889534][attachment=3,msg2889534][attachment=4,msg2889534]

I'll add pictures when I can resize them. The site is not loading the pictures. Well, no matter what size I make them, the server is telling me that they're too big so no pictures!! I'll continue the story later.

We set up camp on a gravel bar and being that you can't hunt the same day you fly, we fished. We caught a bunch of greyling on a packable flyrod that I had brought. We camped a few days in each of the first three locations. We glassed one very big bull high up on the timberline about 3 miles away. Several miles down the river I had a bull come in for about a 12 yard shot, however I passed because he didn't look like he would make the 50" min for the area that we were hunting. Being that close to a bull moose was definitely worth the trip.  That was my one and only shot. In my mind he was a dead moose. It was a great 12 days!! When we came out of the bush, we found a heard of caribou about 2 miles out. We  put on a stalk hoping to catch up  got to about 400 yards. I can't express what an awesome trip this was!!
