I managed to put an arrow through the pumper station of my first velvet buck last night.  I was hunting with a Primaltech long bow (#53@29), full length .500 spine vintage arrows, and a 190 grain simmons tree shark.

Right at last light I could just barely hear the faint sounds of foot steps over the wind.  When I turn to check it out, there is a doe(i thought) at about 12 yards in the thicket.  I quickly grab my bow and turn awaiting her to step in my shooting lane.  I am trying to hunt in the thickest stuff I can find this year and this played true here.  I have very few shooting opportunities, but I am wanting to see more bucks.  Well, back to the story, she steps into the lane at 12 yards.  I go into auto pilot, draw hit anchor, release, and I see the deer take off with the fletching hanging out the near side.

I listen as the deer runs and I quickly notice she wasn't alone as there were two or three other deer running as well.  I couldn't pin point a crash or anything else.  I had a huge cowhorn spike run right by me less than a minute after the shot.

I later pieced together that that was likely a bachelor group and I had shot the smallest of the group. haha.  After tracking, the deer had ran approximately 100 yards and died right away.  The shot looked very low on the cavity, and it was, but it managed to go through the bottom of the heart.

I'll post a few pics from my phone in a few.

Great job Daniel! You gonna have it mounted? You won't get many chances at a buck in velvet.
