Anyone have much experience with self nocks? I made a couple experimental ones on broken shats and they looked alright.Just wondering if theyre any good on 55#s.I saw a good article on them in TBM.Thanks in advance for any tips.

Minuteman

I reinforce mine with cotton thread soaked in cya. Putting splines in 'em does a better job of strengthening them and it looks cool if you use wood with a contrasting color.
It pays to inspect them every time you go out and when you rattle them together in a tight group. They can make the string give you a nasty slap in the face when they break right next to your mouth. K.S. Trapper has a picture of one of mine breaking on me while shooting the clout shoot at Mojam. I look none too pleased as I recall.
I had been shooting that one damaged for a while so I deserved it I guess.
There sure is alot of air around a squirrel...eeyup.

All I use anymore are self nocks. I make my arrows with sour wood and cane and shoot them in bows up top 60#. I have also made self nocks in cedar arrows. A tight wrap just below the nock, as Minuteman has mentioned is all I use for them. I like silk thread soaked in super glue.
I have made reenforced nocks with raw hide splines that worked well also.     Pat

I always wrap mine with some artificial sinew.

SCATTERSHOT

I have become fond of them. I reinforce with a wrap of artificial sinew or nylon carpet thread, or an insert of some contrasting hardwood. The more you do them, the easier it gets. I'm still perfecting the technique, but here are a couple:
