Back from the dead

Was sick with high fever for a week. Thought I had a summer flu but got so bad I had to go to the ER. I was diagnosed with sepsis which can be very dangerous. It is caused by another infection that they were looking for. A week later the Mayo clinic found the smoking gun, Ehrlichiosis. As if 25 years of Lyme wasn't enough I had to come down with another tick borne disease. It is carried by the lone star tick. I was so sick I thought I was going to die. Ran a fever up to 103.9 degrees, lost 10 pounds and it will probably take a few months to get back to normal. Wife said I was talking and not making any sense. Be careful out there.

Glad to hear you're back on the mend!!!!! Those tick borne illnesses are nothing to scoff at as they can take a healthy individual down quick!

Oh man I'm very happy you're on he mend. I'm more afraid of ticks than any other creature in my neck of the woods.

Yes, it was the Ehrlichiosis from the lone star tick. Sepsis a serious condition resulting from the presence of harmful microorganisms in the blood or other tissues and the body's response to their presence, potentially leading to the malfunctioning of various organs, shock, and death.

Glad you're feeling better. That's some dangerous stuff! Ironically, I'm at the ER with my mother-in-law right now. Think it was an undiagnosed UTI...she was talking crazy today and having trouble walking.

Those ticks worry me more than anything else!

I see that you are from Maryland. Can we assume that you would have picked it up there, or were you recently out of the state somewhere else? Tick born illnesses are increasing in variety, and we all need to be very careful, but still keep it in our minds when/if we get sick as we are not the average person and are exposed at a different level. On a personal note, we are not acquainted, but I am sure glad to hear that the diagnosis was made and you are getting the right treatment. Be careful of quackery when it comes to this arena of diseases. There is a lot of money to be made and a lot of people to take it from you. Look for the best qualified specialist in you area.

I too am really only scared of the tick-borne diseases these day. Hope it turns out ok; from what I found, it seems like Ehrlichiosis goes away after a bit. Get well, hunting season is coming.

I am certainly glad you are doing better. Tick disease are nasty, and it seems that they are becoming more prevalent all the time.

Sounds like Hell! When I was bad sick, my wife got me a ton of Gatorade Low Calorie. Helped me stay hydrated when I could not keep anything down for over a week.

Yes it was Maryland where I picked up some ticks putting up some cameras. Had several on me but missed 2 on my groin found them after they started to itch. Got sick with a high fever 2 weeks later. Did have some weird symptoms about a week before I got sick, would get a headache every afternoon and couldn't look at the computer without getting dizzy. Looks like I'm going to miss Denton hill this year.

Boy, glad your OK. I too got Ehrlichiosis from a Lone Star Tick while putting up deer stands in Atoka County Oklahoma. I was in the hospital for a week. Five of those days I was in a coma. Finally got to go home but the State Health Department wouldn't let me leave the house for a month. Took about a year to fully recover. Ehrlichiosis is a VERY bad deal. Much worst than lyme disease.

Why would the heath department not let you leave the house?
