Back to the fold...

Funny how one's passion always seems to catch up with that individual... even if it takes awhile.
Twenty years ago, while living in Colorado, I got my first longbow from a local bowyer (NorthStar). The bowyer was very friendly and started me on my traditional journey. After a few hunting seasons and many hours on a local public range I drifted more toward ASLs (Hills and Chuck Jones bows were my favorites).
I was making my own cedar arrows, quivers and outfitted family and friends.
Health issues and job changes prompted a move back to Texas four years ago and most of my equipment was sold or given away.
To my chagrin, the area where we live (between San Antonio and New Braunfels) isn't very archery friendly.
A couple of indoor ranges catering to the compound crowd seem to be it.
I gave my last longbow and arrows to my eldest kid before leaving Colorado, only keeping my glove and armguard... Just in case.
The topic of archery came up at church a few weeks ago, as a dad mentioned he had gotten a compound bow the day before to go shoot with his son. I mentioned I used to be involved with trad bows awhile back...
Got a call last night with a request to do a presentation on traditional archery at the next Men's Breakfast.
Talk about scrambling to get my hand on a bow and a few arrows. Luckily, my youngest son lives nearby and still had the Northern Mist and matched arrows I gave him years ago.
Long story short, I caught the "trad fever" again and cannot wait to figure out a place to shoot.
The sheer joy of stringing and drawing that 68" beauty is like the handshake of a long lost friend.

Good for you........don't let the compound guys bother you......go shoot with them......they will be the one scratching their head and asking questions. Welcome back ........enjoy

Yep.  My compound friends wonder how I shoot as good as they do on 3D animals and a couple have shot my bows.  They don't know it'll grab them in the end too.

Cool Story.  Hopefully your rekindled passion for trad archery will spread to others in the area.  Sting it and Shoot it!

At my archery club/range there are about 10 people that shoot traditional, including one FITA shooter.  We actually get together on Tuesdays and Thursdays to shoot.
You have to accept that you are in the minority.  My groups are no where near as tight as the compound guys, but I don't care.  It is a hunting bow.  Deer don't know the difference between a shot in the "10" ring, or an "8".
