Settled on a couple heads and would like to hear and/or see some personal experiences on black bears.  Looking at the 200gn VPA 3-blade and the 190gn Simmons Swamp Shark.

Thank You

I've killed Bears with two blade and with three blade broadheads. It makes no difference. Shot placement equals a dead bear. I think either of your two choices is great. My last bear[attachment=1,msg2869916] was this one and it was a three blade head and the Bear 35 yard recovery.

Here's my first bear, twenty years earlier, Two blade Zwickey Delta and 42 yards

Well I haven't used either one of those heads but sure they do the trick. What I have used is the Simmons treeshark they have killed two bears.  Got them in the quiver for this year also. I'm sure the swamp sharks will blow right through one.

The last bear I killed was with the 200 gr VPA.  Performed great, bear died in sight but I lost the broadhead (buried in a tree ).

No idea about the kill part but the Simmons will hold up to brick wall hits. It also sharpens up great with a lansky.

Either will work as long as it's sharp, I've killed bears with Zwicky's, Magnus, Woodsmans and Bear. Next week I'll hopefully be shooting another, with a Bear with insert.

I'm taking Grizzly instincts and my dad is taking VPA for our trip this year, we leave Friday morning for Stickflingers.  I'm a 3 blade guy even though I'm only shooting #46 this year.  Here's my 6'2" bear from 2017 taken with an instinct on a 2117 from a #53 Zipper.

I only shoot 40# so just a two blade for me, but they are hand forged 250+ grain heads...tippit

I like a wider head for the black bears. They are thin skinned and light boned. Put it in the lungs and you'll hear it go down.
Thick fog slowly lifts
Jagged peaks and hairy beast

I've killed 2 with 200 gr VPA 3 blades and they worked just fine out of my 52# TallTines recurve.

My bear experience is pretty limited, but IMO, you really want two holes.  If you are shooting the oomph, either should be good.  I had Grizzly Kodiaks mounted for my last trip, but didn't shoot.

The bear in my avatar was killed with an ACE standard from a 45# Zipper ILF. 7 yards, pass thru, bear was downin 10 seconds.

Personally use VPA's but either head will be fine.

Like most hava said once again arrow placement is a must. Killed 2 with 3 and 2 blade both were pass through one made 25 yards the other 35 not a single drop of blood.
