Got my glass bow all done.

Looks good, look at the whole bow and not just one limb.

If you need to lose weight ( bow) and want more bend midlimb trap it in the midlimb and feather it out to both fades and tips ...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Nice Roy!! , you cast that riser too?

Roy from Pa

Nope, that's my old 1993 Martin Pantera compound riser.

A machinist buddy warfed it to accept ILF limbs.

Thanks Kenny. I will trust the collective knowledge on the tiller but will give trapping a try. I have never done that nor read much about it so any tips or instruction is most welcome.
Skeater who?

kennym

Study your limbs at full draw and see where YOU want the more bend to be. Taper trapping  away from where where you want the bend back to a rectangular limb. I generally mark 1/8" in from edge and take that off being sure to not make a sharp edge on other side of limb, that will ding easier. So I leave the glass and a bit of wood lam still square to face on the narrow side. When you round the glass you will get close to the wood lam anyway.

I made a jig for my disc sander to get started but it is easy to get too deep. I would use a light rasp and files then a sanding block to do the first one or two.

Keep these pics and overlay the new ones on them if you are techy enough to see the change and plan the next one...

Or send it to Roy and tell him what you want, he likes sniffin glass. :biglaugh:
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I am guessing to leave the bend the same I just trap the entire length of the limb?
Skeater who?

kennym

Yep, I stay off the tips a little because I trap the back and don't want in the nock grooves.  I stay off the fades a bit cause I don't like a bow that bends hard right off the fades... :)

Looks beautiful.  Ya got any specs.  Hopefully it wont give ya any shock.  I hear some custom bows twang worse than an old untuned guitar.    :o

Do you do metal casting, Roy??

Shredd

Damn Lonnie...  Whatcha got going on there??  Looks pretty cool...  Love to see a DFC on that sucker...

Roy from Pa

That's the riser from my old compound,  Shreddy.

It was too sharp to be hanging in the basement collecting dust.

A buddy converted it into an ILF rig in his machine shop.

I put 31# limbs on it for a 3D bow.

I'm getting too old for heavier weight bows.

Shredd

Oh...  I have done a little sand casting and I entertain the idea of casting a riser...

Lesson for today, if you don't want a 2x4 pine riser make sure you put enough tape not to glue your support to your bow... :knothead:
