Hey guys/girls,

I've picked up a Tribe Halo riser (17") with TradTech 50# & 45# limbs used and am trying to figure it all out. This is my first ILF bow. Firstly, I cannot seem to find a recommended brace height to start at, so I'm guessing around 7-8" and fine tune from there?

And I know that limb weight differs for the riser you place it on, so can anyone break down how to decipher the actual poundage without me putting in on a scale? If there is a page or link to visit, that would be fine. I'm starting from scratch with this new stuff.

Many thanks!

Yes I'd say 7-8 inches would be a good place to start. The actual draw weight will be hard to say as limb pad angles differ from riser to riser. Generally you gain a pound of weight for every inch shorter you go in riser length for what they were measured on. It's the inverse for longer risers. Tradtech limbs are measured on 17 inch risers so they should be pretty true to the actual weight. They're also measured with the tiller bolts out so if they're bottomed out you should be seeing them a few pounds over the rated weight.

Welcome to the wonderful world of ILF.  Well TT limbs are rated on a TT 17" Titan riser and are rated 4 turns out from snug.so your Tribe Halo riser should be about the same.  Your limb will probably have a range of 45-49 and 50-54 pounds.  that being said; TT limbs tend to run a little heavy so a scale is your best bet.

Most standard (Hoyt) geometry limbs like about an 8" BH, so I'd start there.

Good luck and have fun.

Thank you, gentlemen. I will for sure have it measured at a shop soon. I appreciate your help!

I also found TradTech limbs to be good, but inaccurate on draw weight rating.  Mine were off by 5 lbs.  On the other hand, I guess, once I tuned and shot it well, why care exactly what the draw weight is?

Yeah I should add I've also experienced that. My last two sets of tradtech limbs scaled 5 pounds off the marked weight. One under and one over. Still shot well just not what I was expecting

Interesting... Looking forward to getting it set-up and measured soon.

Thanks again for the info, gentlemen.

TT limbs are rated on a 17" titan 3 turns out.
Since the limbs are sold in 5lb increments 45lb limbs can be 42-47lbs at minimum rating of course gaining weight when you turn down the limb bolts to max setting.

I have 2 Tribe X3 risers and they are the same length as your Tribe Halo. Both of mine are best at 7 1/4 brace height. They list the riser at 17" but just below that they mention the actual length is 18". This makes it to where it doesn't fit into the standard 60" or 62" AMO etc category. Your string will probably need to be 1" longer than you would think if you are considering it a 17" riser. I think you will like that riser. Very simple riser with no bells and whistles. Points very well. I have mine matched with some Uukha limbs and it shoots very good.

Thanks for this info - I'm expecting to like it very much. I'll be spending some time getting it tuned up once hunting season closes later this week.

Sorry, im not really addressing your question here and I'm still rather new to the ILF world, but my suggestion is to keep on experimenting until you find what is best for you.  Take notes because you'll soon forget what tunes and feels good, especially when you start mixing and matching different risers and limbs (which you surely will - because it's so damn tempting, and it justifies those extra purchases, and just one more set of limbs won't break the bank, and you just have to give each combination a try).  Also, continue adjusting past the point where it's feeling good.  You want to experiment with the whole range, and if you stop as soon as it starts to feel good, you might be missing out on it getting even better.

Yep I tune via the eye Dr. method.  Make an adjustment and ask "better or worst"

Just for kicks, try measuring it from center to center of limb bolts and add 5". This would be the actual ILF measurement of the riser, not the overall length.

Thanks, everyone who has weighed in - I appreciate all of the thoughts and information.

I measured the HALO riser from bolt center-to-bolt center and came up with 13.25", so if I added the 5" recommended, I'd of course get 18.25".  17" sounded short for a hunting bow, so I actually feel better about it being 18"+ now.

I have ordered a string (ten ring) and am awaiting that too before I go full-on tuning, but in the meantime, it pulls and shoots very smooth. Excited to add this to my collection!

That is an oddball length. Thanks for taking the time. My friend owns an older Morrison phenolic riser that is an odd length too.
