New bow first harvest

Headed to deer camp lateTues morning after voting.  I got unpacked and settled in ready to hit the evening stand when one of the guys asked me if I brought my wheelie bow..... I told him I didn't own a compound anymore. He looked at me  like I'd lost my mind!  I ensured him I'd be fine with my new Black Widow PSR.

The first evening passed uneventful, not even a squirrel,  until 5:30 when I see 2 bucks heading towards me. It was dark enough that I had to use my binos to confirm antler.  By the time they got close enough for a shot it was after shooting hours. I got down and happily made my way back to camp. See 2 bucks on the first night was a good start!

Just being in the woods with a stick bow is awesome enough for me and if I get an opportunity to kill a deer that's a huge bonus I love bowhunting and wouldn't trade doing with a trad bow for anything. Sounds like a great start to your camp

Wednesday morning yielded 2 does from the same stand that got in underneath me before I ever thought about getting in position to shoot.  Long story short, I found out the hard way I am NOT a contortionist and cannot make an accurate shot to the right while sitting down.   A clean miss over the top....  "it happens " I told myself.   
At least I'm seeing deer....At close range!

Wednesday evening brought the bigger of the 2 bucks into 35 yards, but still in the thick stuff and to the right.... and after 5 pm.  He likes to show up late. He stood, stomped, wheezed, grunted while standing within that 35 yards.  He finally tore out of there as light faded. I'd been lucky with the wind both evenings. ..

Thursday morning had me in a new stand that we put up Wednesday and I was ready for the change of scenery.  A cowhorn spike showed up around 0800 along with 2 raccoons.

Still seeing deer every time in the stand!!!   
I'm liking it!

Thursday evening had me back in the first stand and as if on schedule,  big commotion to the right and back in the creek. Binoculars reveal my evening buddy found a girlfriend.  He dogged her back and forth, upand down the creekkmfor 20 minutes.
Then chased her back over the hill to the north.

Friday morning. ... 2 inches of snow. ... Good tracking snow say my companions.  We'll see. My buddy that asked about my weapon choice said something about the minor movement pattern was supposed to be around 0830 or so.  I don't really watch those, but anything promising is welcomed.  This is the last day prior to rifle season, so this is it..... I'm due back home by early evening, so this morning's hunt will be my last.

I pull out my Asbell timber ghost wool along with several layers of merino wool and we head out. I opt for the first stand as I have been seeing multiple deer there. In the stand by 0600. 23 degrees and all is well. A coyote is the first thing I see as I'm adjusting my gear and clothing.  Around 15 minutes later a lone doe about 150 yards out. Then nothing for 1 hour and 45 minutes. It's 0820 and I remember the 0830 movement pattern.

You don't know how bad I wanted to get down, walk around and warm up..... only 10 more minutes!
I look up and where I saw the doe earlier, there were 2 of them now!!!! A look through the binos confirms they are does and are alone. While I was watching them a slight noise to my right reveals 2 does in my kill zone. Doh!
I start to reach for the new bow and they trot on out into the wheat field.... I relax, knowing that they will be out of range before I could get around on them.....as I relax a third one trots though!!!!!! DOH!

I NOW have my bow and am trying to get position for a shot and they spook.....  what the???? Wind is right , they are NOT looking at me....  they run out toward the other 2 all head into the creek timber.  I figure I'll hold onto my bow just in case...

Well  2 minutes later, I here grunting and something running. I look back to the dreaded right and I see him coming up the lane... FAST!
He slows to a trot at the opening of the trail to field, I'm already half drawn and do the "meh " and he stops.  I come to full draw and let it fly.

The arrow hit him high,  but at 8 yards, it needed to,and slightly angling forward.  He mule kicked did a half circle and ran down to where the does went. I see the back half of the arrow sticking up out of him as he ran off. I wasn't too thrilled with the penetration. .... I heard the arrow smacking trees as he went.

I sent texts to my cohorts and found out all 3 of us shot deer within 5 minutes of one another!  One buddy showed up and we went looking for mine. I told him that I didn't get a pass-through and didn't see any blood from the impact.  We trailed him in the snow and mud into the timber. He managed to make it 130 yards.  A quick look inside showed the VPA entered high on his left side about mid lung and traversed across into his right lung then shoulder....lack the reason for the arrow sticking up. He didn't bleed a drop outside his body.
