Woohoo!  The season starts on Saturday!

Connecticut Tradgangers - where will you be hunting on September 15th?
I'll be in the State forest in Deep River.

Good luck all!

I'll be at my daughters girl scout camporee.  Hopefully make it out to private property zone 11 Sunday.

Still haven't been out. Had a torn retina just before the season started and foolishly thought I'd get out. Ended up with a total repair of detached retina (9/21). Hopefully only another week to wait. Already missed a full month.

How are you CT guys doing? I check in daily for a CT report.
Good luck all.

Wow, TMH, I hope you heal well and fast!

Take some consolation in the fact that it has been too darn hot for deer hunting - at least for me.

I've had a couple of sits and seen several, but no shots yet.  Ill be posting as soon as I have anything to say or show!

Thanks Dirtguy, at least my private land spots are still virgin. Maybe I and pre rut will come together as one.

Hey CT Tradgangers - any success out there?  I haven't hunted these past two weekends (Family weddings!) but have seen many deer moving.

Give a shout and share how you are doing!

I finally made it out yesterday afternoon.  didn't see anything until the drive back to MA.  there was a decent 8 pnt feeding on the grass at the offramp by the reservation exit off of 395.

I've only done five sits. I've bumped at least 6 different animals, but I've only seen one distant runner that I couldn't ID from my stand. I've had a couple close enough to hear walking, but too thick to see. Will be out in the AM.

I hunted this afternoon - nothing to report except WIND!!  Any deer down guys?

TooManyHobbies

No. I missed a button buck Thursday... twice. One over at 8 yards, then under at 13. Busted the second arrow and lost the broadhead. So, I decided to put my one pin sight back on. I'll be out in the morning. GL guys.

Any news? I hunted both mornings this weekend,  I saw 12 deer all at once on Saturday, non today!  12 sounds great, but its to dam many! too many eyes!

TooManyHobbies

I haven't seen 12 all season. I quickly filled my gun tags, so I'll be back out with the bow Wednesday. Too much work tomorrow and looks like rain all day Tuesday.
Good luck.

Having meat in the freezer is a wonderful thing Congrats!  I will also try to fill a gun tag over thanksgiving.

Weird morning for me. Hour walk to my stand, bumped one 35 yards from stand at first light. 7am a deer is snorting repeatedly about 60-70 yards away, wind was in my favor and I wasn't moving. Never saw the deer so don't know why he was riled. Half hour later, same spot, a deer bleats 5 times. Again, didn't see it. 9am I hear foot steps and a big CRACK of a stick. Same spot, still couldn't see anything. Too many pines and hemlocks blocking my view. At 9:30, foot steps behind me, look over my left shoulder and a buck is 45 yards out. Walking away, ignored calls. By 10:30 I'm freezing, and decide to get down at 11:00. I pull up my rope, tie my bow on, and a doe comes flying by from west to east, right by me at 8 yards. I put an arrow back on, hoping for something pushing her, when she comes flying through again. I stood up before checking where she was, she caught me moving. Back stepped and ran off. Out at 11:30, and bumped one on way out. 27* and crunchy, just the way I like it.
Tomorrow will be around 12* with windchill at 0*. Hopefully can sit for two hours or more.

Well, like too many hobbies I used a gun to put meat in the freezer now its back to the bow for the rest of the year. Anyone else having success.

Nice to hear that you dropped one JB Seitz!

dirtguy

Are you all still hunting?  I am looking forward to getting out again this weekend.  I may well go through January to try to connect with trad gear.

Good luck everyone!
