I getting to think I want a wool hat for hunting. I really like the one Ron is wearing up on the Asbell add.  Anyone else like to wear a hat.

I have worn a wool crusher for years, they are hard to beat.

Yes sir!  Only type I wear to hunt in.  Short brim, fur felt or wool felt.  Straw in summer.
Wear them any time I'm outdoors, except for work.

What's a good source for hats?

I always wear some sort of hat. Often, since early season is always hot, I wear short brimmed cap. When rain is a possibility, I use a wool felt crusher hat. On the rare occasions that it gets really cold, I use a fur lined bomber cap. I never use a straw hat because they are too light colored for the generally green/brown woods on my place.

If the acorns start dropping like they did last year, I'm wearing a helmet and goggles...

I've came across a few nice wool fedoras on eBay.a couple I've cut the brim to 2" for string clearance.and the Bavarian hiking hats are good wool products.

I wear a wool felt Fedora when it rains and when it gets cooler and a baseball cap in the early season.
Roy, our red oaks have been falling for over a month now. I don't know why so early unless it's because of all the rain we've had so far this year; almost 100".  :o

I know the Asbells are busy with serious matters these days, but does anyone know if the hat like the one Ron is "modeling" is available at this point?  Sure like the looks of it.  I cannot seem to find it on their website...

Put in "hat",  in the search box on their website.  One cap/hat came up.

Look at Peter Brothers in fort Worth. They are not cheap but you'd be hard pressed to beat the quality. I'll bet I've owned a dozen different felt hats in my life. In the early days I got them from men's stores in small towns... not sure you can find one anymore.

About 15 years ago I swallowed hard and bought a hat from Peter Brothers. It's the bullet proof model and unless I lose it it will be the last felt hat I'll ever own. Still in great shape and oh so comfortable.
