Lonewolf Treestand Modification Question

I have a question, I have ordered some 5/16 Amsteel rope and plan on replacing the straps on a lone wolf stand with the amsteel rope. Now this rope is the same rope that is now in vehicle winches and is rated for over 12,000 pounds so I am not worried about it breaking. On youtube I have seen guys do this for the climbing sticks but not the stand. Has anyone done this?

I've done the rope mod on LW sticks but have not considered it on my stand in fact, i'm such a coward I've added a second ratchet strap on some funky trees.

My experience is it's great for sticks but on stands has a tendency to pull away from the tree and not allow a rock solid cam over. U trying to reduce weight of the buckle or just noise? If it's noise just slide a bicycle tube over the buckle

Thanks, I am trying to reduce weight and noise. I will give it a try in a tree in the yard and go from there.

While I have not tried it with amsteel, I have modded every LW stand and stick that I own with a rope mod at some point and I always end up coming full circle back to the strap....it just works. The weight is no big deal to me but the buckles must be covered.

I've had the Amstel slip just a touch on me. It would hold my weight but you could watch it slip a touch and loosen as I put weight on my stand/sticks. I assume it's just because the rope itself is so slick. It made me uncomfortable so I switched to static climbing rope and it seems to lock down tight every time. I love the rope mod though. It cut down bulk, weight, noise, and time to set up. There's literally NO downsides to this mod.

My amsteel may have slipped too because of how it was made. I had hollow braid so I could splice in loops on the ends for towing. While my Amsteel rope's outside diameter was a touch larger than my static climbing rope, it may have been slipping a touch from compression under tension making it slightly too small for the anchor points. I don't know. After it stretched and slipped it would always take a set and hold strong, even after I jumped up and down on it to try to force it to come loose. However I just couldn't get over seeing it slip about 1/2"-3-4" before locking down tight. Your experiences may be different. I know many guys that use it and those ropes are rediculously strong and light weight. I just couldn't get on board with it for hanging stands.
