I was out chasing pigs friday night, and was stalking up on this hog from the Northeast. Not much wind, and he was very edgy, so I knew that I wouldn't be able to get as close as I liked.  I had a good shot at a touch over 20 yards, and all I saw in the dark was my illuminated nock continuing past the hog, and heard the hog run off and keep on going.  In the second pic, you  can see my string tracker line and the illuminated nock, and how far the hog was able to move before the arrow got there.  A clean miss because he moved over a full body length before the arrow got there.  More an issue of the noise of the bow, and how wired the hog was, than how fast the bow was.  Just more of an FYI post than anything else.

It is amazing how fast pigs are!!!! A quiet bow is probably better than a fast bow... JMO.

Agreed, like I said at the end of the post.  I just posted it that way because I figured it would get people's attention, and it sounds a little like a line from the movie JAWS, lol.

Pigs are jumpy, bacon on crack, funny thing is they can turn a 180 and go the other way just as fast as jumping forward. Were you shooting one of your Stickflingers? They are pretty quiet, and fast.
Lefties are the only ones who hold the bow in the right hand.

Has your wife seen these pictures? It seems that you are making a very convincing excuse for buying a new bow. It's worth a try.

LOL.  No, it was a recurve that  I hadn't killed anything with in a while, and I figured I would try to kill something with it.  I shoot it pretty well, and have killed alot of critters with it, but it definitely is noisier than some of my other bows.  Especially the stickflingers.

Holy smokes Pat, I had no idea hogs were so prolific in OKlahoma.

Although it's an enjoyable hunt, I'm glad we don't have hogs here.

At 20 plus yards maybe the string tracker slowed you down . I have shot string at yardages of 20 and more just to see what would happen and it looked like the brakes get put on . Pigs are faster than bacon greased lightning !!

Sam McMichael

Great shot, but I fear you just lost your chance on that new bow that we mentioned. Luckily, you are doing just fine with your current rig.

That's funny!  When I first saw "rojo grande"  the piggest pig I've ever laid my eyes on and killed.  It told him I was going to need a bigger bow.  I went home and tuned up the 60# Sley longbow I had on hand and the rest is history.
