I have photos of bucks out of velvet August 23, so more will strip this weekend. Can't wait to retrun from Alaska and chase some whitetails. This one with dark velvet is 5 1/2 years old, but has not grown much from last year. Note double white patch. Mike

Mike, I like the double throat patch its a cool trait especially on bucks. I cant wait either to start chasing some whitetails! Good luck in Alaska

We won't start seeing any shed velvet till about the middle of Sept. Been really hot  and dry out here all summer till a few weeks ago when we got over 4" rain. The pastures are looking great, but all the new growth has stunted daytime deer movement a bit.

Good luck in all your upcoming hunts!

Nice color on the velvet do you think his antlers will be as dark?

Herdbull

Yes the antlers of the 5 year old have been dark colored when they come out of velvet in previous years. They hold that rich color well into late season. Mike

Hey Mike, I've saw a couple buck last weekend
At the edge of a field. It was nice to see them.

I got your book chasing solitude and it is outstanding.
Thank you and  everyone involved in writing it.

Mike,
They are starting to move here in VT too.  We dont have the quality of bucks you have in the Midwest but I have 5 pics of this guy in the past 2 weeks.  He is coming down through a saddle on the upper end of my property.  All at night but I am hoping that as it gets cooler and they are moving more he will make a mistake.  This is upper end for my area.
