Ya'all know I like to mess with skins,so the other day I was thinking about how some might look over diff. colors.

I've been thinking about black glass for my new bow.So I did this to get an idea.Just a raw pc. of poplar with black, yellow, brown, and natural under copperhead and western diamondback, glued down with TBII.

A few folks are always wondering what copperhead looks like on dark glass so I thought I'd share....

My vote would have to go with the Brown...Looks Richer on my monitor.

Peckerwood

I like Emery Rat snake skins over black glass. Black glass also makes a faster bow.

NO matter where you go there you  are !

Those skins look to be still wearing the scales. If so,I would think the darker areas would be a little darker with the scales removed.Just wondering. One of my buds has a black glass bow with canebrake skins, and it is a sweet looker..

Hey, Guru...

How they hangin', mate?  Haven't posted on you for a while.  It's soooo coooool playing with snake skins.  I catch BABY rattlers and case skin them by cutting off the head and rolling the skin down.  Then I roll the wet skin right back down on the top 8-10 inches of a clean, wood, arrow shaft.  The natural skin moisture glus it solidly in a few hours.  Dip, crest, and dip some more.

I had some smaller and/or damaged Copperhead skins.  I put two on each limb, matched as close as possible, then took fine gold rod winding thread and wound the razor cut seams.  Whoa...pretty and a great way to use the smaller stuff.

I have done Osage stone knife handles, Osage and Yew screwdrive handles that I made, all sorts of stuff...even the leather hood to a Great Northern Quiver.  FUN!  Trouble is, now I need more snake skins.

Keep 'em rolling, mate!

I like the black under the diamond back and brown under the copperhead.  I've just conducted a similar experiment.  Used a dark walnut brown stain applied on the flesh side of prairrie rattler.  Darkened it up nicely.  Should work very nice over the natural bamboo I plan to put it on.

Danny Rowan

The black obliterates the copperheads cannot even see the pattern. Natural or brown is the way to go with the copperheads.

Guru,  We'll have to talk after I put that Morrison to the test in Georgia & Texas.  Skins sure would be nice to hide from the bears in Quebec and the forge is all fired up...Doc
