Fletching Orientation

  Has anyone noticed an impact on arrow flight by gluing the feathers closer or farther from the nock?   I like to keep mine about 1" away from the nock, but only for aesthetics.

Need to have the fletch start far enough in front of the nock so you can get your fingers on the string without contacting the feathers (noise).  Other than that, the farther back they are, the more effect they have, but a quarter inch one way or another doesn't make enough difference to worry about.  Feather number, shape, size, hight, amount of offset/helical, etc. all have more influence on arrow flight.

I use the feather-to-nose secondary anchor point, so mine have to be quite a bit further forward than the average distance I've seen on other people's arrows. In fact, I had to stop using 5" feathers because I couldn't fletch them right in my jigs (Bitz & BPE). So, I 4-fletch 4" feathers. But I don't see any difference in flight. Then again, it might be because I suck no matter how my arrow is fletched.

I echo what Orion said above.    I also use my feathers to gauge my proper brace height.

Mine are the same.  No doubt, at some point it would make a difference in arrow flight, but the difference between 3/4" and 2" makes no difference, as far as I can tell.

Ive never measured the distance on mine but i always fletch mine just far enough forward to avoid face contact with the feather. Not much breaks my concentration more than a feather tickling my mustache hair.

After making well over a thousand arrows in my life I can't say that I ever thought or cared about it.
