I am looking at using Simmons tree sharks for black bear this fall. My arrows currently have 250 grain field tips and a 14 grain insert. The tree sharks come in 190 grains only. If I add a 5 grain brass insert I am still shy of my current setup by 20 grains. I have looked at the brass washers that are 5 grains each but they recommend using a maximum of 3 per arrow to ensure enough thread contact in the insert.

Do you guys have any idea on how to bridge that gap that wont break the bank? The tree sharks look like great heads and I would like to give them an honest shot but the weight gap might make me just stick with my current heads.

Use a glue on treeshark (165gr) and a 100gr BH adapter cut a bit shorter to weigh what you need it to. I just bought some glue on treesharks from raptor archery.

Switch out the aluminum insert for a 75-grain brass insert.  Will give you 265 grains up front.

What arrow are you using?

I switch from using the Tigersharks  (175gr) and treesharks without any trouble. YMMV.

Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,

I am using Black Eagle Vintage 400s. I may be able to get away with some variance in weight but I would prefer it to be near exact for confidence sake.

I am having trouble finding 75 grain inserts, anyone know a place?

You can also use 100 grain brass glue in/ glue on inserts and a 165 gr glue on Treeshark for a total weight of 265 gr up front.
Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

I doubt if 20 grains is going to make any difference . Try shooting them.

I agree as I can shoot both tiger and tree sharks the same.....love them simmons!

If you decide to go with glue ons and like them, it would be a good idea stocking up on them since Simmons isn't making them any longer...

I know the Simmons are cheaper but have you looked at the Centaur Battle axe ? I have used both and like the battle axe way better

My understanding is that's the only glue on he kept in the line up. All others are discontinued.

That is correct, Dave brought the glue on Tree Sharks back, at least for now anyway.  The rest are history.
