string and serving help

I guess I have a few questions, I would like to place an order in for some D97 Fast flight string material, I am new to making strings. I am wondering for a Flemish twist bowstring and the re-curve bow pulling 56 pounds and I have another one pulling 51 pounds for my draw length how many strands would you suggest and then what would you order for the serving string and the thickness of the serving string? I hope I gave all the info needed, thanks in advance for the advise!

I would make the bowstring 14 strands and pad 2 strands in the loops.  For that I would use .021 serving.  For a beginner I would make a 16 strand bowstring with no padding.  This might drop your serving down to .019, I dunno. Probably best to buy both.  You'll use them sooner or later.

What McDave suggests certainly will work.  My preference is a 12-strand D-97 strings padded with 4 strands in the loop (two in each bundle).  Serving size depends on the nocks you shoot. With my 12-strand string, I use a .025 or .026 serving for Easton X-nocks.

I like 12 strands, loops padded to 18.  Serving size depends on what type nock you are using, and how you like it to fit.  Halo, 62XS, and Power Grip are all excellent serving options that come in lots of different sizes.

I use 14 strands of D97 (no padding in the loops) and Halo .024 serving. That combo fits my X-nocks perfectly.

When I used D97,a 12 strand is strong enough for up to a 100# bow.I shot a 12 strand D97 on my Dan Quillian Bamboo Longhunter 83#.I padded the loops to 16 strands and served with Halo .024 serving,came out close to .110 served diameter which will fit a good number of nocks like large groove G-nocks and Easton 3D Super nocks with a .098 throat diameter.

To get the proper knock fit you will have to experiment a little with serving size. Once you decide on number of strands. I have found there can be quite a bit of variation in knock groove size from one brand to another. If you are making self knocks you can make them to fit your string. If plastic some times I will sand the grooves a little for best fit. But I am a little picky.
