No need.  I was kinda just joking about identifying it.  I also thought it looked like maple, either way it's getting used.
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

Today I will start a new riser. This one would work but it seems that in removing the oozed glue on the jointer I got a smidgen out of parallel with the accents. Perfectly functional but it just glares at me when I see it.

Skeater who?

Took me all day to glue up the victims riser...  Reason being I had to make up the gluing jig first...  No more wonky glued up risers...

Some quality work happening out there. Going to start on a new form today.

Glued, sanded and feathered riser... Gluing jig worked great...  Riser is Light Sheoak with wenge and maple accents...  The accent is kinda my signature series...  It's simple and I like it...     ;)     :biglaugh:

Looks good, shredd.  What is your plan for the limbs?

As for my progress, I've cut plywood for the form but not putting it together until I get some of that construction paper to bring it to specs.

A nice piece of Myrtle Is on the way from Oregon for the riser.

I'm struggling with core lams and glass colors.  Wanting this to be reminiscent of old school Hill style straight limbed backset.

Any thoughts on cores and glass?

I've taken the first steps in my build.  Decided what to build and got an order off to Kenny for some lams which will be here soon.

Kenny is so awesome to deal with.  Sent him an email yesterday with what I needed and he hopped on them today and will ship in the morning.  I feel bad making him work on Superbowl Sunday.

I am keeping it simple...  Going with what I know...  Maple cores and Black Glass...  I will be using Gordon's Glass for the first time so the stack will be different than my glass...  I hope I get it right or I might be building two bows...  lol...

Got some materials from Kennym today, hopefully I can get things glued up this week. Hope my victim likes Bocote and Curly Maple. Sorry for the bad photo quality, it's a phone pic.

Crap.....

I feel sick....

Cannot believe I just did that...

I flipped a god dang veneer.  So, now, I have my pencil marks where I wrote, "This side down" clearly visible under the clear glass.  Ugh....

I swear, the only way I could be any dumber is if I were bigger.

I was just thinking of your Boo-Boo this morning...  I here are some options for writing on your lam... After you lay out your lams that are gonna be glued write on the tips of the lam...  It usually gets cut off any way...  I also started writing info on the side of my lam near the tips...  That area also gets cut off...  Or just use colored glass...      :biglaugh:

Ahh, the agony. Should I go with a proven design or whip something out never seen before.....

LOL...  You know what I am going through...  Personally I think you should give them a taste of Kenny...  Go with your standard and what you know works...

I was gonna glue up the bow today but you know how it goes...  Yah gotta pick out and match your lams, scarf and glue some lams together, figure out stack thickness, record everything in the notebook, cutting lams to size, double and triple checking everything so that there is no mistakes, then there is always something else involved and you gotta answer the phone a few times...  Three hours later and no glue on the lams yet...  I got a small job to do this afternoon so it looks as though this bow might not get glued up today...
And all I can picture is the poor victim is sitting out in the cold waiting by the mailbox...    :)

I say "standard Kenny" is getting stale, let's mix it up a bit and keep it exciting....

I wonder if I should have saved my Roy impersonation until after Kenny shipped my glass...
Skeater who?
