About ready to start tillering a bow for an orangutan with a 31.5" draw...

Scary pulling a wooden bow that far..

It's 68 tip to tip for a reason...

BMorv

I'll be following this one closely.  I thought my 29.5" draw was tough.  I wouldn't attempt it.  Bamboo, maple? Osage
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

nice looking bow there !
not bad for an ol fella
  :D

Roy from Pa

Well the first bow I made for him was 64 tip to tip, and it's been 5 years and still shooting, so this one should be easier.

But if he calls me old fella one more time, I'll just keep it for me.    :)

Osage belly, Red Elm core, boo backed.

Nice Im watching to ,sense its close to my draw bet it will be a sweet shooter at that length , I never reliesed tillering the longer draws was harder tell Bmorv told me sense thats what I tillered from the first bow on.

I fine tuned my jig for grinding lam scarf joints.  Actually, it was the operator that needed fine tuning.   :)

Lam joints have been a bugaboo for me but the ones glued up today were pretty good.

I finished a bow and stared on a stave.
Life is to short to pass up anything that could potentially be bow wood!

Worked in shop, talked on fone, and took down 4 ladder stands.

Well went to cut some Osage at a friends area. First cut, his brand new chainsaw got stuck and we had no backup saw. Took the saw off the bar and left with the bar still wedged in the tree. LOL

Got home and found a long package at the door. It was two awesome Yew slats from Canopyboy.

Thanks so much, Dave.

That sucks Roy I always try to take 2 saws been there like you , well at least it will be there when you get back.

Threw away all my  certain brand of dipping and cresting lacquers. (The fumes started to really bother me and make me feel sick)
I cleaned out the dip tubes. Started over with the whole package of True North water based sealers, dips and cresting colors.
Unwrapped two doz Surewood hunter grade tapered shafts. Straightened 6. of them. (Though they didn't take much as they were very straight to start with). The Surewood premiums are darn near perfect. And honestly the hunter grade are just as good with a few grain run outs hear and there.
Opened a package from Three Rivers with fletching supplies. Since I never used the True North products before I started on just 3 of the new Doug Fir shafts. While experimenting with a scrap shaft with the new paints.
I was not expecting the water based to do as good a job as the lacquers. So far I'm impressed. The cresting paints to flow and cover better than the old lacquer. The metallic cresting paints really look good. They lay tight  to the shaft and can easily do super fine professional looking lines. I tried dipping the clear of cresting, it works just fine, no running or bleeding at all. So far the learning curve has been easy. I'll see how the glue work and if it has target burn...etc soon enough.
