Recurve String Lenght

Looking For Some Help to determine the string length of an Indian Archery Recurve the bow is the Savage in #55 263-58" Would Appreciate anyone with the knoledge of what the original length might have been and what it should have for a brace height thanks DA

Should be 4" for a re curve and 3" shorter for along bow.

AMO string length is 3" shorter than the bow.  It's actually worded that the bow's AMO length is supposed to be marked 3" longer than the string master (steel cable) that puts it at proper brace.

That being said, lots of bows don't follow AMO.  Easy solution is use some stout twine or a single loop string and a bowyer's knot to find the correct length, measure it, and make a string.

Some have big time reflex and or deflex so it really depends on the design.   I just allow for the twist to take up the slack.  Works for me.

I would start at 4 in shorter!

They used to say 4" shorter because they used B-50 and it stretched aaaaaaallllloootttttttt. With FF you can probably go 3".

All I use is B-50,  not saying its good but I always pre stretch it, as long as I allow for enough twist to make up for any stretch and get it back to proper brace height. My bows are mostly 40# and under like #34, #35 #36 etc.  My recurve is #45.
I have 2 spools of B-50 so untill it gets used up I wont buy anymore string.

I don't like to have to use twist to make a string shorter. I like to make them the right length! This is done by bracing with an a flemish string/bowyers knot. Perfect everytime.

I hear ya, but a flemish just looks finished with a little twist.
And I said I was using B-50
I thought we all twisted a string,  unless the sport shop does it.  Kind of like swimming and walking left right, left right.
