My son was given a beautiful bamboo backing lam and red elm lam (board).  I'm thinking cut the bamboo to 1/8 thickness and taper out to tips.  1 & 3/4" at fades 1/2" at tips. How thick should the elm be?  Put a lam for a handle? How big? Wedges? Whaddaya think?

Thanks.

red elm isn't great in compression. To make this combo work you would have to trap the boo heavily. Better to get a compression strong wood to start with.

PEARL DRUMS

Make a tri lam using that elm for a core. An osage belly or ipe belly would be best with boo.

X's 2 on that Pearly boy. I suggest Osage for the belly..

Is the boo a lam or a baking strip?
I also like Pearlie's suggestion.

The bamboo is a premium backing strip. OK I can dig it, 3 rivers has Osage strips on sale.  He wants 50# at 28.5". Any info on suggested length, lam thickness and taper or anything really is greatly appreciated.  Looks like we are building our first tri-lam! Cool.

Thanks Roy, I was hoping I could count on you.  You are good egg no matter what some say, no offense intended, I grew up where you chide those that you like and don't the ones you don't.
