rmorris cut up some locust and gave it to me now it's getting dry enough to use but I haven't heard if its a good wood for a glass bow lamination or could it be used as part of a wood bow or would it be ok to use it for a riser. Thanks you wood wonders

Yep good in a laminated bow and in riser. Just watch for bad areas and cracks that can pop up any where in locust. here is one

Nice looking bow David, thanks for the info. I like the colors in the wood.

Galen, you are making want to get back to Abq and build some bows wish I had the space and time to bring all my stuff out to Texas. Keep me updated on how that bow comes out. Also how is that mulberry doing ? I mine was at the top of my wood stack and got a little warped last time I looked at it ..

Good morning Ralph! Miss having you around. I'm home for a while so hope to get started on a few bows again. I'm going to cut the mulberry and locust in narrower pieces then put those in my bow oven at low heat to be sure they've dried out. Our humidity has been a bit higher than the normal 5 to 15% range but the wood has dried considerably already. The mulberry has a few cracks but none in the usable wood areas.

B.Locust is first class selfbow wood.

I've made two black locust bows backed with boo, no problem with either one and very pretty stuff.

Roy from Pa

Is yours honey locust or black locust,  Ben? I'm not sure of the difference in wood properties.

BenBow

I don't know which it is, Ralph do you remember what you cut up?

Ralph cut me up some mulberry too so would they make a good trilam combo?

I don't see why not. I'd put the locust in the core lam.

black locust makes a great core--I've built a few with it--Troy has it listed on his site

Ralph said it was honey locust so not as good as black. I like the colors so may check it out for a riser with a beam to help it's strength. It should work ok for lams in a glass bow too.
