So what I have been using is a handmade drill jig that works well,  but just playing with the dimensions. This one has the bolt hole 2 3/4" from end, and the last one I did had a pad length of 3 1/2"   Its just an "L block" which I can clamp onto the riser and limbs as I drill.  But then again I can slide it to where I want only thing its a pain to get the exact length from the riser end.

1) First question is a 3 1/2" limb pad to long..?  I'm using an 8" wedge.
2) Is any one riser layout better. ?
3) Does someone have a template..?
4) Where should the alignment pin go, on the limb or Riser and how far back.

I make mine with a 4" pad, from riser end 1" to pin(glued in riser) and another 2" to bolt,,,,

Thanks, I know some builders use a 3" pad.  I feel more comfortable with a larger pad. Not sure why, as I don't have a ton of experience at this anyway.

I make my riser pads 4" on a 16" riser.
I space the pins(2) one inch apart starting from the end of the riser and the threaded insert is one in from the 2nd pin.
