had to work 3 1/2 hours early this morning at my "day" job..got home and after lunch I started planning a bow build. I turned the A/C down in the shop and Picked out a nice board for a black glass build.. I think the board is Black Limba, I cut out and shaped a 19 inch riser..At 6:30 I cut some pork chops out of a wild hog backstrap and cooked then in an oven bag, I used my serrated potato peeler to thin slice 2 sweet potatoes into planks/chips, I fried them crisp in coconut oil...Helen seemed to enjoy the meal I made us.

Managed to get two rounds of shooting in today on my new boo backed tri-lam. The mor I shoot it the more I like it. After not much more than just test shooting a bow or two for over a year I can sure tell it. Got muscles telling me they don't like it.

Robert, I'm hungry all over again now.

This weekend DU2 helped me in the shop and we got her new longbow all done and a temporary coat of finish on it so we could hit the range Sunday morning. She's able to shoot it fine for a few shots, but it tires her out after a bit; she'll need to work up to it while continuing to use her old bow as well to practice form with. But she wanted a stronger bow and this one is about 32@25 and really zips an arrow. She wanted it full length, so it draws smooth out to 30 inches or so.

Turns out she's an awesome string maker too. I'm now paying her to make my strings. I should have thought of this sooner. She's a natural with knots and rope and taught herself to knit years ago. Her attention to detail is better than mine. And since she can look at something once and figure out how to knit it without a pattern, teaching her what to do took about 30 seconds. After her first string she was already improving on my process.

the sign of a good teacher, is when the student surpasses the teacher!

you are a lucky man!
good job-
not on the bow- but on raising a great family.

But when the student surpasses the teacher in 30 minutes, it might have more to do with inate ability and a low bar.    :dunno:

Thanks Wayne. They're starting to look like they might just make it after all.

Very nice. I can't wait to my son's older.
My 4 year old just told me "he wants a bow like daddy's "

Brock

arrived home from Rock Ridge Outfitters in Carrot River, SASK from bear hunt.  Got a nice black bear..perfect coat....206+ lbs with no fat on it so would likely go over 300# for Fall before hibernation....  Quick caliper score of skull without final cleaning and drying was 19".  So thinking should be slightly over 18" after all is said and done...

Shot it with my new wolfer bow from Dick R....and a surewood shafted arrow with a Grizzly Kodiak on the front.  Blood trail that Ray Charles could follow...   :)

Just finished deboning two shoulders and two hams and cleaning them and the backstraps up and put in freezzer vacuum bags.  I think one will be a spicy bear stew but sure one or two will make it into my smoker!   :)

Congrats Brock, awesome bear.

Very nice bow, Troy.

Very cool, David.

That's an awesome bear Ron. Congrats on a successful hunt!

Well, last night I sanded the remaining 4 bows to profile, put some string nocks in and threw 'em up on the tree. Somehow there was a math error when I did the lam stacks for three of them. (I did all three at the same time, and I can't swear that it wasn't after a tasty beverage or two.) The two twin bows that should have ended up in the upper 50's @28 will probably finish in the low 70's. The one that was supposed to be about 70 looks like it may finish up in the upper 80s. Ooops! Since the 70# bow was for me, I can just take one of the twins for myself. The other will probably sit on the shelf until I find some other fool who wants a Hill bow that heavy. The other bow will be my elephant bow I guess in case I ever go to Africa...

The good news is the fourth bow is just fine and should drop into perfect weight for my swap recipient. Hopefully trap and round the limbs and finish final tillering tonight.

Uh oh! Time to hand in your engineer card. I think you've been a manager too long ... Time to get back in the trenches.

Back in my day we used slide rules so now one ever forgot how to calculate ...............

On the plus side, you've got more data, and a reason to build a few more :-)

ROFLMAO....

Ben, I'm thinking he bought his engineers card off the big auction site... Maybe his daughter should lay out the next bow..   :)
