The materials look great, can't wait to see the bows    :campfire:

Wagstaff

Inksoup:
That one is called "Pecky Pecan". I call it "Zombie Skin".  It has some amazing character.  It's a bit of extra work to fill and stabilize the "scars and cork spots", but looks unique and dramatic.

Monterrey:
Google:  "Certainly Woods" they have a website.  PM me for the link if you can't find it.  I don't think the rules allow me to post a link here.  They are helpful folks to deal with.

Buying lams like this and cutting them to size is extra work, but it does me well until I get my hands on that " Baby Drum" sander...!

i see some  curly maple? and curly sapele? and maybe some walnut burl?

Got my hickory ordered, how does sinew backed static recurve sound?  Kinda thinking modernish Manchu...

Oh well, pics in a few weeks, shipping is slow and my hands are shot.

Spose I'll update my progress. Got a glass r/d in the form curing now(option 1a), got a couple poles of moso boo sliced up and ready for tapering, getting walnut for core, and yew lams for belly(option 2a), Osage or yew or hickory billets for 2pc(option 3a). I say 1a, 2a, & 3a because there are plan b and c for each option. When I have all three options near finished, I'll post the pics and let my poor victim choose his. Then one to my bro and one for my shelf. Fair?

Sinew bows are always cool, but just a heads up that sinew can take an outrageously long time to fully dry.
Hickory makes a great backing on its own, with more than enough strength to crush itself in compression.

Whatever you decide to do, keep the updates coming!

Seeing as to how I received a proper horn bow last year, I think it would dry in time.  Our house often needs humidifiers to be liveable.  I will take that under advisement, though.  I know that the vast majority of you have worlds more experience than me.

Got my trade bow gluing up right now. Now hopefully I have it all lined up right. Will find out tomorrow morning when I get off work. Hopefully it will come out good and suit ******* to their liking.

Just got the test bow glued up on my new d/r longbow form. Used black glass and actionboo lams with walnut riser. After I blank this one out and get a draw weight, I can glue one up with some good stuff! Hope my recipient will like a one piece deep core mild d/r.

bigbob2

i can't even start my trade bow for weeks! Got a few orders to do first and then wait on more glass.Made the riser week or two ago but that's about it.

I've lost my supplier.....
I know we have some great sponsors here but I do enjoy hand picking my material. I will get some pics up soon
The rest of you guys have once again set the bar rather high    :clapper:

Holy Cow!  Apparently I need to check in more often.  I just updated myself on 7 pages of this swap.  I have to say that all the progress so far is very encouraging, and slightly discouraging  :)   I'm still trying to decide what to build!  My victim is one I consider to be much more experienced than myself, and builds beautiful bows, so I'm a little nervous about building for him.  I think I just need to pick something and go with it.  I'm sure whatever I build will be fine, but it's just a different kind of expectation for myself knowing I'm building for a great bowyer.

First step is cleaning up the garage and finishing a knife and fixing up a gun case for my dad, then on to the local Amish to pick out some local woods.  Again, good start guys!  Can't wait to see some of the results!

I'm trying to get ready for "The Heard Museum Art show" coming up next month and then I'll start on my project. The first week end.
