I am doing my first restoration of an old bow and using thunderbird" satin" finish, on my 2nd grain fill with it and it is the clearest highest gloss of anything I've used, just beautiful. But I want "satin"is this normal before it is totally cured?it is dry but not cured totally.am I to put the "satin" in at the end with steel wool or should it dry satin? I tried to call the Balowski"s but there mail box is full. Thank you Burt

make sure the finishes are completely mixed in the indivual cans first before mixing the two,  In the past with me the (flattener) will settle on the botom and I will have to stir shake or mix very very well.

and no it shouldnt be shinny

Bowjunkie

Just 'satin shiny'.

And yes... make sure it's completely mixed.

It is pretty shiny, but it does get better as it cures.  When it first goes on, it looks high gloss, give it a week and it'll dull a good bit.

thanks everyone, tomorrow I will sand the grain fill coat, mix (very very well)a new batch and put my final first coat on,wait 3hrs and then a 2nd. and see what happens. Burt

If you keep applying the satin, you will get a milky look you probably won't like...unless there isn't enough dulling agent in the mix.

I've never had success adding dulling agent to a set as it never blended in.

It should dry satiny right off.

I just try to live my life in a way that would have made my father proud.

problem solved,I simply did not stir enough.I sanded down the shiny grain fill coat and applied a well mixed coat, and it's beautiful.thanks every-one.I spoke to David Balowski and he suggested just like Dmaxshawn, that I needed to mix more and they were right...Burt

I Use three coats of gloss, followed by two coats of satin, that last of whcih is sprayed on about 10" away.Get a real nice satin finish.
