What glue should I use to put Rattlesnake skins on an osage self bow?

David Flanrey

I use Tite Bond III.  Works for me.

Titebond...but hide glue also works.

put some glue on the bow and let it dry overnight, then glue the skin on.
it keeps the moisture from the wet skins from going into the wood.

I put a coat of water thinned glue on the bow and skins and slop them together. They are pretty dry in and hour or so moisture getting into the bow isn't a problem. I haven't counted them up but suspect I have skinned 25 or 30 bows.

I like Elmer's stainable wood glue, neutral color and won't show through the skins like the bright yellow TB glue will. I have never use TB3 but suspect it will be just fine.

Here is a snake skin how to; Leave out the superglue step as it is unnecessary. What I do now is to put 5 or 6 coats of Tru-Oil on the skin with a light sanding after the last couple of coats. After the Tru-Oil dries I give the bow a couple of coats of satin Spar Urethane.

I use Titebond too, or II, or also, or III.
Take a kid hunting!
