What wood would you recommend under clear glass that would appear white?

I'm actually looking for a "dirty" white.  I guess you can say a distressed / aged look.

Any ideas? (using smooth on epoxy)

Look at some of the stuff on troys website

The Birdseye , Curley and spalted maples may be a good choice for what you want also check out the sycamore.

I have several white woods that should fill your request. One that comes to mind is the Mango sapwood. It's not white as most would think. It's kind of a pale, pale tan to dirty white.

Just went out and wiped a couple woods down with alcohol.

The Mango sapwood turned darker than I remembered. Guess I've looked at it so much dry I forgot.

Here is something that might work. Rift Sawn Sycamore.

That sycamore might just do the trick.

My buddy knows I've been making my own bows and ask if he bought the materials if I could make one for him. Course he knows I'm still learning but didn't care.

He pretty much wants a wall hanger but still be able to take it out and play with it.

He is wanting an american flag theme, marines are pretty patriotic and for good reason. I found some red, white, and blue

Sorry for the post mess up.

Mr. Breeding I actually just ordeted some lams from you for my next longbow. Can't wait to see them.

What changes in color does the smokewood do when laminated?  Also, is there another name for smokewood?

If you want "white", find yourself some holly.  It's the whitest wood that I know of that grows in eastern US.

Drewster -- that would be my suggestion also.  Even then Holly is more "dirty white" that not.  I have a dulcimer made from Holly with a Butternut top.  With a boiled linseed oil finish the holly almost looks like Poplar but not greenish.  Of course the Holly can be bleached with a bit of Clorox if it's not white enough...
