G Evening; I was searching thru the site looking for Open style forms. Just to get some ideas as I want to build a basic one that is just a board using blocks having different heights.?

D

You mean like this??  I got the idea for this one from Roy on here.

Roy's is a piece of art.
Here is same principle .

I use rubber tube strips and clamps now.

Exacto El Mundo. I have a plan to make mine slightly different, with small cleats on the end pieces for varying lenghts. Like 68"-66"-64" etc.
Good idea with the holes in the blocks.
Thanks D.

Its a great style of form.  Always get nice even curves with it.

Wolftrail for different lengths I just unscrew the blocks and slide them one way or the other for different length bows.  I've got lines on mine every inch so I always get them even.

I got some strange and obscure projects on the go, I should have the from done in a week or so and post a photo of it.  I am not going to be screwing in the blocks, it will be set up so as simply moving the end ones 3 spaces and the mid-limb blocks just 2 spaces.

What is the difference between using an open form vs. a closed form (with hose). Do they use different materials and make different types of bows or is it personal preference?

I think an open form is adjustable. Change up the deflex or reflex, as well as the overall bow length.

Yes, the open form is fully adjustable from straight bows, to reflexed to d/r  to recurves and anything in between. Not so with the solid hose type press.

Thanks for posting the Video Roy. Just asking;  I use the rubber bands, do you prefer the clamps.?
