Need some advice on Takedowns

Hey gang-
 So I have made quite a few KennyM longbows now and want to try a takedown. I can make forms and such pluse I have the hoses already.

Can someone lend a hand as to what else for equipment do I need? I know the drill press and such but where can I get a jig for the limb bolts. I have seen people can leave or take the bringham ones. Really excited to try this kinda bow!

You can do it without a jig, if you have a drill press. I do think the jig helps keep ya at 90 deg if you are using a hand held. I use a 6 in machinist ruler w/ 1/64 and 1/32 increments to measure mine and drill with the press. The bingham jigs holes are 2" on center.

The jig and or drill press is your call. You will need drill bits, tap and tap handle for sure. You can get take down kits from a few sponsors I believe.

I made my own drilling jig just to help keep everything in alignment when drilling pin holes, but other than the takedown hardware, that's it.  Take your time making sure everything is lined up properly, or you'll set yourself up for about 3 1/2 weeks of headache!  Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything . . .

just finished one and i will tell you if the alignment if off its a pain in the rear.  Get a laser and put the bow in a vice to line everything up before cutting the limbs out. try to get one square side where the edge of the limb is flat with the riser block.   then you can measure and layout. We used a doweling jig.  I understand what the binghams jig is trying to do its just really poor at doing it.

Search "self-centering drilling jig" on ****. I bought one of these 15 years ago and wouldn't attempt building a takedown without it. It comes with inserts to drill holes from 1/4-1/2".

Ok I am no expert, I am working on my first bow of any kind and went with the Binghams TD longbow.  I just used my milling machine to drill all holes and they lined up great. Lacking the mill I would make a drilling jig, that way the distance between holes would be consistent. I also have had 2 of the self centering dowel fixtures. One I have had for many years is a well made tool. The other I picked up at a yard sale for cheap, it was a Chinese made peice of junk. I gave it away.
So if you go that route buy a well made one.
