I'm working a hickory selfbow and was thinking about putting a fastflight string on it without glueing on anything else on the nocks.  I was wondering if there would be any problems?   Has anyone else done this before?  I would to hear about successes and failures if there are any.

I haven't put one on hickory only because I haven't completed a hickory.
Osage handles it easily so it should not be a problem.

I use D-10 and D-97 on Hickory and Osage self bows and BBO and BBI bows but I have horn or antler tip overlays on them all.

just put two pcs of b-50 8" long in both ends of each bundle and you will be fine

A lot more hand shock if you go to it. Very unforgiving.

I have found the opposite to be true.  actually my bows feel and sound quieter with D-97 vs dacron.

I use d97 10 strand with loops padded to 16 all the time on my hickory selfbows without tip overlays. Not a problem. My bows are all under 60#.

likewise. I use BCY 8125 on all my bows, selfbows, glass bows and laminated wood bows.

I have used it on birch, with slim tips and no overlays......at 70# draw weight.........no problem. Birch is way softer than hickory, so you will be fine.
I find way less handshock with the high tech materials than Dacron........Dacron is awful stuff in my opinion. But everyone knows what opinions are like..........   :D

I agree with the others. I use FF type strings on my selfbows and it made them come alive and greatly reduced handshock. I do not use any overlays on the tips and my string loops are not padded. I have shot one of my bows hundreds if not thousands of times with no negative effects.

I use D-97 on my hickory, and locust bows no issues.
