Sweet bow, Ben.

Had a funeral this morning and work this afternoon. Birthday party for my youngest son tomorrow. Maybe later in the day I'll get to work on the bow!?

Why can't life work out the way we want?

Oh, and no, there was no bow delivered here today.

Ben...

Nice bow and darn quick too! Well done!

That looks sweet, Ben. I sure like the way you add that thick powerlan that puts the core lams down the middle of the riser.

It just some funny grained plain sawn hickory that I thought looked nice.  Man I feel so self conscious now knowing you've seen my work!
Well at least I know he got it all right.  I didnt know you were that close. I'm going to be passing through your areas at the end of june. Going to some friend's land in southern AR for a hog hunt.  Right on the Quachita (sp?) River.  Should be a good time!  Maybe I'll swing by and pick up some more glass on the way back through :-)

Joe, I'm not very close to Kenny's place.  I'm about 8 hours away.  I'm in northeast Arkansas.  Where you going hog huntin?

I have started my trade bow but don't have any pics yet.  Working on getting the riser glue up ready.

D

Got to raid Kennys wood pile??  Lucky dog. That sure is a good looking curve. Looks good all the way around

kennym

Yeah, David bout got all the good stuff, I may have to find some when I decide to build somethin.......   :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Boy did I ever get some good stuff!!     :bigsmyl:    :bigsmyl:

I was smiling and dreaming all the way home.

Kenny, I think I left a few (hundred) good boards to choose from.

Time to post some progress pics of my trade bow.

I am using black locust and walnut for the riser that I cut on my farm here in Paragould several years ago.  Had to take the black locust down to board from back in the winter.  Been drying in my hot box for a couple months.

I'm building a three piece recurve.  Limbs are from some of the prettiest birdseye maple I've ever seen.  Got it from Kenny's wood pile back in December while on a hunt in Linneus.  Since all the wood is American I'm gonna call it "All American".

David Flanrey

After several passes through the drum sander the two are ready to shape up into a riser.  I glue the two boards together with a heavy piece of paper separating them.  I am going to use the template to cut out my flare so both pieces fit together better.

David Flanrey

Here is a pic of the birdseye maple.  The pics don't do it justice!

talkingcabbage

David a buddy has some family down around El Dorado and they've got some land overrun with hogs. We're gonna try to help them out ;-)

I just got caught up here after a week down in Ohio chasing turkeys with my friends. There sure was a lot of reading to do! I glued up an all (except for the power lam) bamboo tri-lam before I left last week and I removed the clamps this morning. Got it cut to shape and bending on the tree and it's looking ok so far. (knock wood).
I'm taking a break right now, but I'll get back to it after dinner. It would be nice to shoot some arrows through it tonight if I can. I'm still a little tuckered out.
Funny how we go on a holiday and end up waking up an hour and a half earlier than for work each day , run around all day and get to sleep late , and still call it "restful".        :archer:
I love turkey hunting. Probably more than any other hunting that I do.
Dave.
P.S. the quality of the bows being built here just continues to blow my mind. If my offering is even a shadow of the bows I've seen, I'll be pleased.
Dave.
