I have some Italian cypress trees in my yard that my father and I cut down. The logs range in diameter from 2 inches to 6 inches. Any body ever make a bow from this wood? How wide would you make the limbs? Any specific bow design to follow? Thanks.

Cypress makes a good core wood for a glass bow, don't know about a selfbow.

do you think it is similar to pine, thus requiring extra wide limbs?

I think you need to do a bending test as described in the TBB, forget which volume.

Do a test piece with cypress, pine, doug fir, poplar, maple. shouldn't take more than an afternoon at most.

see where it falls. That should give you a guideline on where to start. If you're not sure, post your results and someone can try to help you.
