I need some advice and direction on this repair.  I have a longbow that I bought that the tip overlay came off in shipping.  I would like to repair this to use the bow.  So the question is, how do I go about removing the other tip overlay and what do I need to do to install new ones?

Thanks

John

You should be able to re-glue the old tip overlay back with super glue. The gel type works best but both will work.

I don't have the tip overlay.  Seems that the Postal Service liked it more than me cause they removed it and kept it.

Could you post a pic?

Do you know what kind of material it is?

Have you ever done any sanding, gluing and shaping?

Reason I ask is because you are going to need to sand the overlay off and replace both.  You will need to file the string grooves into both and reshape the tip.

I agree with Pat on the super glue.  I use 3M brand.

The tip overlay is mostly cosmetic anyway. You can make another of a similar material and glue it on.
I made a selfbow a few years ago that lost a deer antler tip overlay. I added a bison horn overlay and called the bow "Two Tips".
