Well, back to the drawing "board."

My first attempt just went kaput.  Snapped, danged near broke my right index finger...now I have some kindling for tomorrow nights fire.  Right before it snapped, I saw where I needed to rasp out some wood.

I now have enough experience where every tree I see looks like a potential bow.

This one was a red oak board bow and my primer for getting into this great hobby.  I am not defeated, I learned several valuable lessons in the blink of an eye. But my doggoned finger still hurts.....Tomorrow board bow #2 is gonna be glued up with riser...and then start shaving!

I haven't been that scared ( when the bow snapped) since my head on collision with a Chevy truck.

I could hear Ralphie saying, "Oh my god, I shot my eye out!          

Well, lesson learned, no splinters in my face or right hand.  Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

See if you can find some good grained hickory or pecan boards down there. Try them next time.

What would be ideal dimensions for your favorite board long bow?
Length?

Width at Riser?

Width at string nocks?

Thickness at ends?  Riser?
