What do you guys use to write on your bows that will withstand Thunderbird, or other sealers?
Ps 8:3 ¶ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

When I was just using polyurethane I used sharpies, metallic ones look really good. I got some Deft the other day though and it made the sharpies run... I may not have let the writing dry long enough though.

I use India ink, works real well.

Acrylic ink is the best thing I have found so far.  Get it at Michaels, good stuff.

Pat B

I use black India ink also. It comes in other colors too. Black Sharpies tend to fade over time.

Fine tipped craft store paint marker....been playing with India ink and a fountain pen though lately on fly rods so that should look good on a bow.

I like to give the india ink about 3 hours before I seal over it.

Eric, I never would have thought you were that messy with your stuff.   :laughing:

Eric Krewson

Roy, if you think that's bad you would be appalled at the present condition of my shop. I keep saying "I need to clean this mess up" but haven't been motivated to do so yet.

bigbob2

Thanks Eric , your workshop sounds a bit like mine!

Roy from Pa

I understand about the shop, think I will shovel mine out today:) Then open the windows and door and hit it with the air hose.

I have tried gel pens, sharpies and paint pens as well as art pens. The problem I have is that the poly causes the ink or paint to run, no matter how much time I give it to dry. The last time, I used a sharpie and sealed it with Tru-Oil before spraying on the poly. Will India ink run when poly is put on over it?

I use sharpies and finish my bows with tru-oil. After a couple of coats of tru-oil I'll write on the bow and apply a few mor coats of tru-oil over the the whole shootin' match.
I want to try the india ink, though.
