So I had this 68" osage selfbow I had stopped working on because I really didn't like how it was turning out, so I chopped it into this...

I cut the length down to 60", and then to 58". It is 1 inch wide at the handle and tapers to 1/2 inch wide at the tips. It tapers from 3/4 inch at the handle to about 7/16 at the tips. Right now it is pulling #51 @ 28"

Now it had quite a bit of set and some natural deflex. Here is a pic immediately after unstringing...

Can I try to put some reflex into it or is it too late?

Flip the tips.
And scrape the in 1/3rd of each limb abit ....

A little hingy on the top limb at mid limb.

CardboardDuck

I flipped my first set of tips  :)

I think the tiller is close, my eyes get buggy after a while...

Looks pretty good to me as well.

That seemed to turn out well.

Looking good,
How much weight did you gain after the recurves were added?
It's a good day for something.

SportHunter

Looks good to me, like the curves.

CardboardDuck

Thanks for the compliments. After some more tillering work and sanding it came in right at 50lbs @ 28". I wrapped the tips with black sinew and added a twisted jute handle.

It's a bugger to string though...

Steve B.

Great job.  Do you wrap the tips for strength or just looks?

CardboardDuck

I did it for looks but figured it couldn't hurt to add a little insurance.

Roy from Pa

Well now I don't like it...
LOL, just kidding. Looks sweet.
Is it my eyes or are the edges of the limbs more squared?

Steve B.

Pretty good for a cardboard duck.  Now that you're good, what are you going to build next?

KellyG

Wow that is a sweet looking bow.
