Which end goes up?

On my second bow I decided to file string grooves into the recurve tips, following the "Y" of the string end loops up to the notches. Then I got to second guessing what I just did. I had my recurve string on the bow with the larger loop on the lower limb  when I traced the string onto masking tape, which means the "Y" shape down there is slightly longer than that on the upper limb. Is there a correct end (upper vs. lower) over which I should be fitting the larger string loop?
 

Oh, and I will never again glue tip overlays on without first grinding an angle into them.

Typically the larger loop goes on the upper limb. Bowstrings will have the center serving located appropriatly.
But it's really your choice. You can do the larger loop on the bottom if you want, just be sure the center serving is located right. If you get a custom string you can tell the string builder what you want. Or if you make your own strings then you can do it the way you wish.
