How would mulberry look as riser material, and I imagine being related to osage, it would also make good lams for glass bows?

I had a Windstorm longbow made years ago that was mostly mulberry and the bow shot extremely well.

Thanks Kelly and owlbait. owlbait- that windstorm longbow was it a laminated glass type, as that is what I have in mind. Kelly -I dont think the log I am getting will be long enough to sneak a selfbow out of.

Yes, laminated glass. Mulberry veneers with boo core limbs and mulberry and glass riser. In fact, I sent the bowyer a quarter sawn log and he cut and planed all the pieces from that. Turned out to be a very quick and forgiving bow. I recently sold it to my son-in-law because it is too much weight for me now. The bow still shoots great. Good luck.

What about billets and glue them together? If you get enough for that. It is just an option either way I would love to see it as you build it. You doing a build along on here or on OZBOW?

Thanks owlbait and Kelly.Thats really great news regarding the suitability of mulberry in glass bows.Looking forward to getting these logs today. Kelly I havent seen the logs yet to know just what size they might be, and I havent tried a self bow for many many years, and even then it was less than spectacular!I might quietly fidget away with a bit and see where it takes me though.On another question, I am aware that quite a few fruit trees make self bows, can anyone tell me how citrus would go? I can also get some orange tree limbs.

well you can check it on my trad bow. it is pure mulberry on core and backed with beech+chestnut+beech.

Inksoup where did you post shots of bow?Got the mulberry today, only one little branch about 3''dia and 50'' long so wont be making too much with that.
