New bow workin on, drawn profile evolution

This has been a 3 bow evolution, pics below... this one has found a 10* pad angle, 4" PL past the fades, using .002 taper at 1.5" limb width at the fades. This is braced at 8.5, and I think it will like 8" when its all said and done

 

 

Here are  its predecessors, 1. with .003 taper and 5* pad angle and 2. with 8.5* pad angle and .002 taper. More pics to come when I get it roughed out a bit better.

You see how this one is really hinged at the fades, I dont have a drawn pic of this one but it bent hard at the fades.

This one is still hinged, but far better. Trux has this one now.

Haha... No I'm afraid that one was killed with a wheely bow before I found the wonder of the stick bow. Thanks though.

Just as a side note the first one was 50 lbs and changing to less taper but inc the pad angle netted me 4 extra pounds to 54

I really dont know what weight I'll be gettin out of this one as I did shorten it a bit and therefore dec the stack by .010..., I was told to add 4-5 for the PL, and of course lower the expected poundage by inc the pad angle again. So I am hoping for about the same range of 56# or less which is what I tend to shoot best weight wise

Bow #2. is a bow I made for Trux that finished 54@28 and seemed to be a pretty good shooter, and after talking with him, the next step in this design's evolution seemed to be a power lam, which on this bow is .040 thick extending past the fade full thickness for about 3.5", then rapidly tapering to zero. The bow is a bit heavier than I'd planned, but a little glass sanding should get her down to where I can manage it.

Ok an update, I got the riser overlays glued up last night and can finally begin shaping the riser. The tips are done and only have to do one more overlay on the limb butts.  Honeydoo's have been piling up, keeping me from my addiction.

Thanks Stickmonkey.  I did some extensive rounding of the glass and sanded with a block sander and I think I have it where I want.  I cant wait to dive into riser shaping.  One thing I did different on this bow was to round the limb butts off instead of blending them straight into the riser like I did on past bows.  The reason was in case I wanted to make a second set of light limbs about 40# or so for targets and form practice. I figured it would be easier to make that match than to try to shape them just right blended and all. We'll see how it looks as I will have to change the way my sight window a bit to make it look right.

You hit the nail on the head there with the rounded limb butts. I think it was early last year I saw those rounded butts and made a jig to do the same thing. Its much quicker and less stress when making another set.
